We will continue to see a fair amount of clouds but still mainly dry and enough sunshine to get high temperatures to around 60F in Bangor, Dover-Foxcroft to Bar Harbor and Eastport. Tomorrow, winds shift SW and generally less than 10mph with surface high pressure overhead drifting out over the Gulf of Maine. It will take until 7-9am to mix out given the lower sun angle and sunrise now closer to 7AM. In addition expecting some patchy fog to develop mainly across the river valleys that will reduce visibility into tomorrow morning. There will be some readings in the North Woods to portions of the Crown and north of Baxter that might see patchy to areas of frost with temperatures 32-35F in the colder spots. High pressure will crest over the area overnight then slide south of the region Wednesday into Thursday. That said, as temperatures fall, particularly over the near continent, any winds from this direction may bring colder spells as the month progresses - perhaps more likely in northern and eastern areas.Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Caribou ME 1217 AM EDT Wed Oct 18 2023 Cooler later into November when blocking high pressure and easterlies are more likely. Temperatures are more likely to be above average, but perhaps trending closer to normal. Rainfall may be higher than average in the south and southwest at first but as the period progresses more seasonal weather patterns of wet in west, drier in east will dominate. Although, spells of high pressure may bring some longer drier interludes than earlier in the period. The majority of the period seems likely to be dominated by Atlantic depressions, bringing wet and windy conditions to the southwest and west. Temperatures a little higher or close to average for the time of year. Risk of some strong winds at times, mainly in the west and southwest. Further showers or longer spells of rain likely with the focus more on western and southwestern areas than through the preceding days. There is significant uncertainty for later in the period but, on balance, the block over Scandinavia is likely to weaken which will allow the influence of the Atlantic low to grow. Winds light to moderate and rather cold for many. Showers likely to be wintry to high ground of Scotland. Perhaps the best of any dry and sunny weather for the west and northwest. On Sunday, probably showers for many areas but especially across the east.
